Women's Swim and Dive Heads to Miami Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team will compete in its final meet of the fall before winter break when it heads to the Miami Invitational, Dec. 5-7. Other teams competing in the 20th annual Miami Invitational include Illinois, Cincinnati, Denison, Wright State, Emory and Urbana.

The talented competition that the Cardinals will face include MAC foe Miami who is 4-1 on the year. Big Ten squad Illinois is 5-2 on the year and has won four out of its last five dual meets.

Two highly-touted Division III opponents will also test the Cardinals. Emory is currently No. 1 in the Division III College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll and holds a 2-2 dual meet record. Denison is ranked No. 2 in the CSCAA poll and is 3-3 on the season.

Ball State is coming off of the 10th annual Doug Coers Invitational that saw the Cardinals earn 16 event victories. Senior Haley Richter claimed three individual event victories (100 fly, 100 back, 100 free) while Bridgette Ruehl swept the breaststroke. Ruehl has not lost a breaststroke race thus far in the season. Classmate Emily Wisolek earned wins for BSU in the 200 free, 500 free and 200 back.

Senior Mallory Miles earned a win in the 400 IM as well as the 200 fly. Junior Carlena Magley earned the fastest time in the 50 free while senior Cheyanne Jackson touched first in the 1650 free.

On the diving side, Quinn Bixler, Jamie Denlinger, Brittany Penn and Madie Zirzow all earned a season-best mark on either the 1 meter or 3 meter.

The invitational begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Nixon Aquatic Center. Times for the meet on Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7 are 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and heat sheets can be purchased for $1 each.
