Matt Kamieniecki to Miss Season with Wrist Injury
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State men’s basketball player Matt Kamieniecki will miss the 2013-14 season because of a wrist injury.
Kamieniecki will undergo a second surgery on his right wrist Thursday. The Clarkston, Mich., product will redshirt this season and be a fifth-year senior for the Cardinals in 2014-15.
“We are disappointed for Matt and his teammates that he will not be able to play this year,” Ball State head coach James Whitford said. “Matt is an accomplished player who has been productive throughout his career. I am confident the rest of the team will step up in his absence.
“We will be using this season as a redshirt year for Matt and will be excited to have him back as a key member of our team next year.”
The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Kamieniecki has played in 74 games through his first three seasons at Ball State. He averaged 4.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as a junior, starting 11 of the final 16 games after being limited by injury in the first half of the season.
The Cardinals open the 2013-14 campaign Saturday at Indiana State. Tipoff is set for 1:05 p.m. at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute, Ind.
