Men's Swim and Dive Falls to Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Ball State men’s swimming and diving team opened up the 2013-14 season dropping a 179-109 contest to Evansville Saturday afternoon. Seniors Drew Tharp and Michael Oaks and junior Jake Brehmer earned individual wins for the Cardinals.

Tharp swept the butterfly clocking a 51.87 in the 100 fly and a 1:55.18 in the 200 fly. Oaks took the 200 free with a time of 1:47.60. Brehmer took the top spot in the 3 meter diving competition earning a mark of 254.10.

In the relays, the 200 medley relay of Tucker Hale, Conner Snare, Tharp and Cole Smith turned in a 1:40.73 while the 400 free relay of Austin Green, Neal Fennig, Smith and Michael Oaks clocked a 3:13.69.

Notable finishes in the freestyle include Cole Smith and Austin Green who earned third and fourth places with times of 21.90 and 22.05 in the 50 free. Oaks came in second in the 100 free with a 48.22 followed by Green who clocked a 48.60. Fennig came in second in the 200 free with a 1:48.96. In the distance races, Andrew Lamb came in third in the 500 and 1000 free with a 5:02.39 and 10:22.79, respectively. Fennig clocked a 5:03.71 in the 500 free.

In the fly, freshman Tanner Barton finished second in the 100 fly with a 53.78 and third in the 200 fly with a 1:58.66. Classmate Bradley Ridge clocked a 2:03.81 in the 200 fly for fourth place.

Drew Sullenbarger and Hale went third and fourth in the 100 back with times of 55.05 and 56.47. Cameron Watters was right behind with a 58.78. Sullenbarger came in second in the 200 back with a 2:01.33.

The men take a break and will see action next with the Doug Coers Invitational held Friday, Nov. 22 – Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Lewellen Aquatics Center. Check for more news and information on Ball State men’s swimming and diving.
