Cross Country Heads To BGSU For MAC Championships
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Months of preparation culminate Saturday at Noon for the Ball State cross country team when it approaches the start line for the 2013 Mid-American Conference Championship Meet hosted by Bowling Green at the Forrest Creason Golf Course in Bowling Green, Ohio.
The 6K meet is setting up to be one of the best in recent memory as three MAC squads appear in the top 10 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Regional Rankings with three-time defending race champion and seventh-ranked Toledo leading the pack.
In its only 6K meet so far this season, Ball State placed third out of four teams at the season-opening IPFW Invitational (Sept. 7) with five runners posting career-best efforts.
In its second meet of the year, seven BSU runners posted career-best efforts at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener at a shortened 5K event at BGSU’s Forrest Creason Golf Course. Five of those career-best efforts still stand, while seven Ball State runners have season-best efforts from the race.
Ball State’s top runner entering the 2013 MAC Championships is junior Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) who owns the Cardinals’ top 5K (18:35.35) and 6K (23:12.28) times this season.
At last year's league meet, hosted by Buffalo at the Beaver Island State Park, the Cardinals' top five runners combined for an average 6K time of 23:15.0 and posted a combined score of 267.
Edon is Ball State’s top returning active runner from last year’s league meet, as she placed 45th in the event with a career-best 6K time of 22:49.4.
The only other active returning runner from last season’s league meet is Edon’s twin sister Caitlynn Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) who finished 78th with a career-best effort of 24:14.5.Ball State Cross Country Career-Best 5K / 6K Times
