After week nine of the football season, strength coach Dave Feeley wants to remind all of the Cardinals how strong they are. Enter "90% Day," where the Cards squat 90% of their summer maximums.
But just a regular weightlifting session wasn't good enough this year. Feeley wanted to spice things up and make "90% Day" a fun event for the players. That's where the fog machine, black curtain and WWE championship belt (circa the Attitude Era) come in. Every player that hit their goal was given the chance to walk through the fog and curtain while hoisting the title. Not only would the Cards be reminded of how strong they are, they'd get to reap the glory amongst their teammates.
"We were watching some pro wrestling one night as a strength staff, and decided 'We should probably do something like that," Feeley said. "It will get the kids fired up and really break up the monotony of the season.'"
What followed was something quite unique. It was something only pictures and video can explain.
The Cardinals return to action when they host Central Michigan in a 'Red Out' at Scheumann Stadium November 6th at 8p.m.. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 and on the radio on 104.1 WLBC. For tickets call 888-BSU-Ticket or browse at BallStateSports.com.
