Men's Tennis Finishes Day One At UT Invite
AUSTIN, Texas - The Ball State men's team started competition at the Texas Invitational Friday in the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Patrick Elliott, in the singles round of 64, defeated Hector Ramirez by a score of 7-6 (7-2), 6-4. Elliott would then drop his match in the round of 32 to Andres Alfonzo of TCU in three sets.
Austin Smith took down Jack McCullers of Air Force, 6-2, 6-0 in the A32 flight. True freshmen Andrew Stutz and Patrick Downs both were winners in their respective flights. Stutz pulled off the 6-1, 6-0 win over Texas San Antonio's Fabian Brand, while Downs defeated Dillon Eizember, 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles action, Patrick Elliott and Ray Leonard took down the UTSA twosome of Boburjon kamijanov and Harley Pearson, 8-3. Lucas Andersen and Smith paired up for the Cardinals but lost as did teammates Downs and Stutz.
The Ball State men's tennis team will continue fall action at the UT Invitational, Saturday morning in the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
