Women’s Golfers Find Stride at Hoosier Fall Invite

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- The Ball State women’s golf team turned in its best stretch of play so far this fall Saturday afternoon to move up the leaderboard on day one at the Hoosier Fall Invitational.

The Cardinals climbed from 12th place after a score of 306 in Saturday’s morning round to fourth by the time play was stopped because of darkness late in round two. Ball State was 4-over for its second round with each player having two or fewer holes remaining at the par-71 Hickory Stick Golf Club.

Jenna Hague, who opened with a 77, was 4-under par on her second round with one hole to play when play was stopped. Sarah Westaway, who opened with a 75, was 1-under with one hole left. Both of those players are among the top 10 individually.

With the scores reported at the time play was stopped, No. 41 UC Davis was leading the field at 14-over par. Purdue and No. 22 Illinois were tied for second at 16-over. Betty Chen of UC Davis was atop the individual leaderboard at 1-under.

Ball State got solid contributions throughout the lineup Saturday. Mary Welch opened with a 77 and was 4-over on her second round when darkness set in. Karley Dobis shot a first-round 77 and was 5-over on round two. Meghan Perry was 5-over on her second round after opening with an 80.
