MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State freshman Keegan McKinney was selected Thursday as the Mid-American Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week.
McKinney tied for 17th place out of 75 players in a strong field at this week’s Crooked Stick Intercollegiate for the best finish of his young career.
The freshman carded a 54-hole total of 8-over par 224 and was the top finisher among the three MAC teams that competed at the event. The tournament included six of the top 50 teams in the Golfstat national rankings and 11 of the top 100.
McKinney has two top-25 finishes so far in his freshman campaign, and he ranks second on the Ball State team with a 75.13 stroke average.
The Crooked Stick Intercollegiate was the fifth of six events on Ball State’s fall schedule. The Cardinals will wrap up the fall next week outside Atlanta at Kennesaw State’s Pinetree Intercollegiate.
