Ball State improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the Mid-American Conference with a 27-24 Homecoming Game victory over Kent State in Scheumann Stadium . . . The win marked the 100th career coaching win for third-year Ball State head coach Pete Lembo, who has also served as a head coach at Lehigh and Elon.
The victory was the Cardinals' eighth straight Mid-American Conference win, which is the third longest streak in school history . . . Ball State's longest MAC winning streak was 12 games in the 1977-78 seasons.
Ball State is off to a 3-0 start in MAC games for the first time since the 2008 season and for only the sixth time since joining the league in 1975.
Ball State is 6-1 after seven games for the first time since 2008 and for only the fourth time since the 1977 season . . . The 6-1 record is the Cardinals' eighth start of 6-1 or better in the 89 years of Ball State football . . . Ball State is 12-1 in its past 13 regular season games.
Ball State has reached bowl eligibility for a third straight season . . . The last time the Cardinals won at least six games in three straight seasons came when the team reached the mark in four straight campaigns from 1988-91.
The Cardinals have scored 275 points in their first seven games this season -- Illinois State (51), Army (40), North Texas (27), Eastern Michigan (51), Toledo (31), Virginia (48) and Kent State (27) . . . The 275 points are the most in school history in the first seven games of a season . . . With five regular season games remaining, Ball State needs three points to tie for the 10th highest single-season scoring total in school history . . . The school standard for points in a year is 489 in 2008.
Ball State ranks No. 1 in the Mid-American Conference and 12th in the country in passing offense (332.9) plus is No. 2 in the MAC and 21st in the nation in scoring offense (39.3).
The Cardinals rank No. 1 in the nation in turnovers gained (18) and third in the MAC in scoring defense (24.4) . . . Ball State leads the country with 11 fumble recoveries this year and is 26th in the latest NCAA statistics in turnover margin (+0.7).
Keith Wenning is the ONLY Football Bowl Subdivision quarterback in the country with at least 300 passing yards in seven games this year . . . Wenning ranks second in the nation with 2,301 passing yards, seventh with 328.7 passing yards per game, 20th in the country with 14.03 passing yards per completion and 11th with 331.1 total offense yards per game.
