MUNCIE, Ind. -- After tying the Mid-American Conference record for career tournament wins, Ball State’s Jenna Hague was selected Thursday as the MAC Golfer of the Week.
Hague won The 2013 Preview at Hawthorns Golf & Country Club in Fishers for the sixth win of her career. She matched Western Michigan’s Erica Bieniek and Kent State’s Martina Gillen, both of whom played in the early 2000s, for the most wins ever by a MAC women’s golfer.
A junior from Burlington, Ontario, Hague needed just 28 career events to reach six wins and still has a year and a half of college golf remaining.
At this week’s 36-hole Preview, Hague finished with a 3-over par total of 147 at the same course where Ball State will host next spring’s MAC Championships. She won by two strokes in a field of 94 golfers for her second victory of the fall.
Hague led Ball State to a second-place team finish at The Preview. The field included 16 teams, eight of which were MAC schools. It was the second runner-up result for the Cardinals in four tournaments so far this fall.
Hague, who leads the MAC with a 73.18 stroke average, has now been named the MAC Golfer of the Week seven times in her career, including twice this season. Dating back to last year, she has finished among the top 10 in six straight tournaments.
Ball State has one event remaining on its fall schedule. The Cardinals will head to Hickory Stick Golf Course in Greenwood, Ind., Oct. 19-20 for the Hoosier Fall Invitational.
