Bryan Bullington, a Ball State baseball letterman from 2000-02 and the No. 1 pick in the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft, has led the Hiroshima Toyo Carp to their first Nippon Professional Baseball appearance in 23 years.

Bullington, a member of the Hiroshima Toyo Carp since 2010, won his seventh straight pitching decision and improved his record to 11-9 to help the team reach the playoffs.  Bullington has pitched in 28 games this season and owns a 3.23 earned-run average.  He has struck out 117 batters, while walking only 41 for Hiroshima.

Hiroshima is third in the Central League and the Climax Series Playoffs First Stage will begin Oct. 12.  The Nippon Series is scheduled to begin Oct. 26.

Bullington, who was drafted No. 1 by the Pittsburgh Pirates, played in the major leagues for Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Toronto and Kansas City.  He earned his first big league victory with a 1-0 win over the New York Yankees while with Kansas City.  Bullington pitched eight shutout innings against the Yankees to earn the 1-0 victory.
