Field Hockey Travels to Lindenwood and Saint Louis

MUNCIE, Ind. -  The Ball State field hockey team (2-3) will head west to take on Lindenwood on Saturday, Sept. 21 before traveling to Saint Louis on Sunday, Sept. 22. The Cardinals lead the Mid-American Conference and are ranked nationally in several defensive categories.

Ball State leads the MAC in goals against average (2.60), saves (56) and saves per game (11.20) and is second in shots per game (12.20) and defensive saves (0.50/game). The Cardinals’ saves per game average ranks third in the nation while the save percentage (.819) is the fifth-best in the country.

Sophomore goalkeeper Shelby Henley leads the conference in saves (56), saves per game (11.20), goals against average (2.60) and save percentage (.812). Nationally, the Novi, Mich., native is fourth in saves per game and fifth in save percentage.

Freshman Lexi Kavanaugh ranks third in the MAC in shots per game with a 2.83 average. Kavanaugh along with junior Tarel Teach have each scored two goals for the Cardinals this season. ­­

SCOUTING LINDENWOOD: Lindenwood currently holds a 1-3 record in 2013. The meeting with the Cardinals will be the Lions’ first home game of the season. Kristi O’Connor has scored three goals for Lindenwood in the four matches. Goalkeeper Victoria Gil has made 33 saves on the year and has a 6.75 goals against average.

SERIES HISTORY: Saturday’s game marks just the second meeting between the two schools. Ball State downed Lindenwood 8-2 at the BSU Turf Field last season off of two goals scored by Tarel Teach.

SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS: The Billikens are 0-6 to start the season and will open its home schedule this weekend. Shannon Knobloch, Meredith Jeffers and Faith Mackin have each scored a goal for Saint Louis. Goalkeeper Megan Depew-Brady has played a majority of the minutes in goal and has a 6.92 goals against average. She has made 56 saves on the season.

SERIES HISTORY: Ball State holds the all-time series record 8-4 although Saint Louis took a 3-2 win at the BSU Turf Field last season. These two squads have been playing against one another since the 1983 season.
