Ball State Football Quick Hits 

Ball State is 2-0 in MAC openers under third-year head coach Pete Lembo . . . The Cardinals are 5-2 in their last seven MAC openers.

The Cardinals have scored 118 points in their first three games this season -- 51 vs. Illinois State, 40 vs. Army and 27 at North Texas . . . The 118 points are the second most in school history in the opening three games of a season. 

Ball State ranks No. 1 in the Mid-American Conference in scoring offense (39.3) and passing offense (332.7), while ranking No. 2 in the league in scoring defense (25.3) . . . The Cardinals are 13th in the nation in passing offense.

Senior Keith Wenning is one of four Football Bowl Subdivision quarterbacks in the country with at least 300 passing yards in three games this year.

Ball State is one of three Football Bowl Subdivision teams in the country that have scored touchdowns on their opening drives in each of the first three games . . . East Carolina and Ohio State are the other two, while Baylor has scored on each of its opening drives in its two contests . . . Eleven other schools have scored either a TD or a field goal on their opening drives in each game.

Ball State fell to 2-1 on the season with a 34-27 road loss at North Texas . . . This marks the third straight campaign the Cardinals have started the year with two wins in its first three games.

With the loss at North Texas, Ball State snapped its eight game regular season winning streak . . . The Cardinals also ended a streak of four straight wins in road contests . . . Ball State ended the 2012 regular season with wins in its final five Mid-American Conference games and its final four road games.

Ball State scored 37 unanswered points after trailing 7-0 to Army . . . It marked the second straight game the Cardinals made a run of unanswered points . . . Ball State scored 42 straight points vs. Illinois State after falling behind 21-9 late in the second quarter.

Ball State opened the season with a 51-28 home victory over Illinois State . . . With the win, Ball State head coach Pete Lembo improved his career coaching mark to 10-3 in season openers as the head coach at Lehigh, Elon and with the Cardinals . . . It marked Ball State's third straight win in a season opener, which marks the first time that has happened since 1976-78.
