COLORADO SPRINGS -- The Ball State soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss Friday at Colorado College in the first contest of its weekend trip out West.

A goal by Kaeli Vandersluis in the 67th minute broke a scoreless tie and proved to be the game-winner for the Tigers at Stewart Field.

Ball State lost for just the second time to fall to 4-2-0. Colorado College, which shared the Conference USA championship last year, improved to 3-3-0 with the win.

The Cardinals will stay in the Colorado Springs area to play Sunday at Air Force. That game is scheduled to start at Noon MT (2 p.m. ET) with live stats and video available at goairforcefalcons.com.

In Friday’s contest, Colorado College managed to pile up 25 shots against a Ball State team that entered the day allowing barely eight shots per game.

Ball State freshman goalkeeper Brooke Dennis held strong in the net, keeping the Tigers off the scoreboard until the 66:30 mark when Vandersluis scored off consecutive passes from Katie Uyenishi and Chanisse Hendrix.

It was the first goal allowed this season by Dennis, who held opponents scoreless for the first 246 minutes of her college career. The reigning Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week finished the game with four saves.

Offensively, the Cardinals were credited with just one shot in the game, an early second-half attempt from senior Michelle Blok. Colorado College goalkeeper Kate Scheele stopped that shot for her only save of the game on the way to the shutout.

The Tigers went on to add a second goal in the final minute off the foot of Sarah Schweiss. Shaina Riciputi was credited with an assist on the play.

Friday’s game was the first of five in a row away from home for Ball State. The Cardinals will not play at the Briner Sports Complex again until Oct. 4 against Kent State.
