MAC Volleyball Announces Complete 2013 Television Schedule
Four semifinalists from a year ago highlight regular season and championship match TV package.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference is pleased to announce Wednesday that for the first time five regular season MAC volleyball games and the 2013 MAC Tournament Championship match will be televised courtesy of the league’s new regional partnership with Time Warner Cable Sports. All four semifinalists from a season ago will be featured in 2013. All televised games will air on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
The 2013 slate will open with a rematch of the five-set championship thriller from a year ago, as Northern Illinois travels to Bowling Green on Saturday, September 28th at 7:00 PM EST. Both teams have been picked to finish among the top in their respective divisions, with Bowling Green as a preseason tournament favorite.
The second match will feature Ball State at Toledo, Thursday, October 3rd at 7:00 PM EST. Toledo looks to return to the MAC Tournament in 2013 for the first time since 2010 under fifth-year head coach Greg Smith. The Cardinals will feature only one of their three All-MAC honorees from a season ago for head coach Steve Shondell, whose .688 winning percentage ranks in the top-10 in MAC history and third among active MAC coaches.
West division favorite Western Michigan will travel to Akron on Saturday, October 18th at 7:00 PM EST. Western Michigan comes in looking to improve on their semifinal berth a season ago with the Lena Oliver and Stephenee Yancy. The Zips come in under Ron Arenz, who will look to get Akron into the MAC Tournament for the second time in his three years at the helm.
The battle of MAC West favorites that will take place Thursday, October 31st will be the fourth match aired live, as preseason west favorite Western Michigan travels to preseason west number-two Northern Illinois. First serve between the divisional rivals is set for 7:00 PM EST.
The regular season TV schedule will come to a close the week leading up to the MAC Championship, when Kent State travels to Ohio University, Thursday, November 14th at 7:00 PM EST. Ohio, who is also a preseason championship favorite, will be looking to become the first outright back-to-back regular season champion since the Bobcats accomplished the feat in 2006 and 2007, which capped-off a streak of five straight titles.
Finally, the 2013 MAC Volleyball Championship game will be aired live on Time Warner SportsChannel, Sunday, November 24 at 1:00 PM EST. Tournament action is set to get underway at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio with the quarterfinals on Friday, November 22nd.
