MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State cross country team will get a sneak peek of this season’s Mid-American Conference Championship course Friday, when it travels to Bowling Green State University’s Forrest Creason Golf Course for the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener. The 5K race starts at approximately 7:10 p.m.
In addition to the Cardinals and Falcons, Miami (Ohio), Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Youngstown State and Siena Heights are scheduled to compete in Friday night’s meet which will be run on the final 5,000 meters of the 6,000-meter MAC Championship course.
In its first 5K meet of the season, the Cardinals will look to build upon several strong efforts at last weekend’s 6K IPFW Invitational.
At the meet, junior Courtney Edon paced the squad and placed sixth overall with a time of 23:12.28. It marked the first time in her career Co. Edon has paced the squad in a meet.
Also turning in a pair of strong performances were BSU’s freshman duo of Jordan Timmons and Ericka Rinehart. Timmons placed 10th overall with a time of 23:46.39, while Rinehart finished 13th in 23:53.40.
Overall, Ball State’s top five runners combined for a 6K average time of 23:51.00, which is just 46 seconds slower than the team’s best performance last season at the Great Lakes Regional (23:05).
