MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State soccer team begins a five-game road stretch this weekend with a trip to Colorado Springs, Colo., for a pair of contests.

The Cardinals visit Colorado College for a 4 p.m. MT (6 p.m. ET) game Friday and then make the short drive to Air Force for a Noon MT (2 p.m. ET) matchup Sunday.

Live stats and live video for a fee will be available for Friday’s game through, while live stats and free video will be available for Sunday’s game at

Through five games this season, Ball State (4-1-0) ranks first in the Mid-American Conference in goals against average and second in the league in goals scored. The Cardinals have out-scored their opponents by a combined total of 10-2

Freshman forward Kelsey Wendlandt leads a balanced scoring attack for Ball State with three goals in her first five college games. Six different Cardinals have found the back of the net as the Cardinals have raised their scoring average more than one goal per game from a season ago. Eight different Cardinals have recorded an assist, led by Cailey Starck with three.

Despite the scoring increase, defense has continued to remain an emphasis. Even though Ball State had to replace its entire starting back line from last season, this year’s team is allowing its opponents fewer than four shots on goal per game.

When opponents do get a good look, Ball State’s goalkeeping tandem of Layne Schramm and current MAC Defensive Player of the Week Brooke Dennis is there to block them. The pair has combined for three shutouts already, and Dennis has yet to allow a goal in two starts.

Colorado College (2-3-0) is Division I in women’s soccer and plays as a member of Conference USA. The Tigers split two games last weekend in a tournament at Marquette, defeating Loyola University Chicago 2-0 and falling to the host Golden Eagles 3-1.

Sarah Schweiss and Chanisse Hendrix lead Colorado College offensively with two goals apiece. Kate Scheele has played every minute in goal for the Tigers and owns a 1.18 goals against average.

Air Force (1-3-1) is coming off its first win of the year with a 1-0 victory against Grand Canyon to close last weekend. The Falcons will host Texas on Friday before welcoming the Cardinals.

Ally Swift, Noelle Heiser and Kylie Williamson have accounted for the three Air Force goals this year, while Ashley Greco has assisted on all three. Goalkeeper Kelly Stambaugh owns a 1.15 goals against average for the Falcons.

This weekend’s contests mark the second time Ball State has played each opponent. The Cardinals earned a 1-0 win over Air Force and dropped a 2-0 decision to Colorado College on their 2008 trip out West.
