Dennis Tabbed MAC Defensive Player of the Week

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State freshman goalkeeper Brooke Dennis was named Monday as the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for women's soccer.

Dennis played all 90 minutes between the posts in Ball State’s 3-0 shutout victory Friday over Eastern Illinois. She made five saves, all in the second half, while also coming off her line to play several crosses and directing the efforts of the Cardinals’ back line.

A product of Wauconda, Ill., Dennis teamed with fellow goalkeeper Layne Schramm to hold both Ball State opponents scoreless this week. Schramm was in goal for the Cardinals’ 2-0 shutout Sunday against Tennessee Tech.

Dennis has made two starts this year and recorded a shutout in each. She held Green Bay scoreless on Aug. 25 in the first appearance of her college career.

Dennis’ honor marks the second player-of-the-week award for Ball State this year. Senior Michelle Blok was named the league’s top offensive performer for the season’s opening week.

With two wins over the weekend, Ball State is now 4-1-0 overall, having won four of its first five games for the first time since 2005.

The Cardinals travel West this weekend to start a five-game road stretch in Colorado Springs, Colo. Ball State plays Colorado College at 4 p.m. MT on Friday and Air Force at 12 p.m. MT on Sunday.
