Women’s Golf Opens Season at Redbird Invite

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State women's golf team begins its 2013-14 season Sunday with the opening day of Illinois State’s Redbird Invitational at the Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ill.

The tournament includes 36 holes Sunday and 18 holes Monday with the action slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. CT (9:30 a.m. ET) each day. Live scoring is available at

Ball State’s lineup for the event features three golfers who competed in every tournament last year: junior Jenna Hague and seniors Meghan Perry and Sarah Westaway.

That trio will be joined by sophomore Karley Dobis and senior Mary Welch, while freshman Kelsey Sear will also compete this week as an individual.

The 14-team field for the Redbird Invitational includes four other Mid-American Conference teams: Bowling Green, Ohio, Northern Illinois and Toledo.

The other competing teams are Bradley, Drake, Evansville, tournament host Illinois State, Illinois Wesleyan, Oakland, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois and Western Illinois.

Ball State is coming off one of its most successful seasons, having tied the program record with four tournament victories last year. Hague, an All-MAC First Team selection, won two tournaments individually and managed the second-best stroke average in program history at 77.30.

Hague led the Cardinals with a fifth-place finish at last year's Redbird Invitational. Ball State finished fourth as a team at that event.
