MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team will open up the 2013 slate with contests against James Madison and Appalachian State over Labor Day weekend. The team will battle James Madison on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 1:30 p.m., and then take on Appalachian State at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 2.
The squad boasts 10 additions this season to complement its 10 returning student-athletes.
SCOUTING JAMES MADISON: James Madison will host Kent State on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. before gearing up to host the Cardinals on Sunday. Sophomores Loes Stijntjes and Lena Wimmert were named to the 2013 Preseason All-CAA team. The Dukes were picked to finish third in their conference after a third-place finish in 2012.
SERIES HISTORY: The Cardinals have a 5-3 record in the all-time series against the Dukes. The teams last meet in the 2003 season where Ball State took a 2-1 win in Virginia.
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE: Appalachian State finished with a 3-15 record in 2012 and finished fifth in the NorPac East. The Mountaineers are returning seven starters and are welcoming six newcomers to the roster. Appalachian State will open up its season with Kent State on Sunday, Sept. 1.
SERIES HISTORY: The Mountaineers hold a 2-1 record in the series. The teams met last season at the BSU Turf Field where Appalachian State took a 2-0 win.
