For the third consecutive summer, Muncie along with the surrounding communities have partnered with Ball State football to provide summer jobs and internship opportunities to Cardinals players.
BallStateSports.com got the chance to go behind the scenes with several Cardinals to give fans an exclusive look as how the team spends the summer. In the second edition of the series, we catch up with senior defensive tackle Joel Cox, who spent his summer working for the Indianapolis based Baldwin & Lyons, Inc.
"I've been working with loss prevention specialists," Cox said, "helping them with safety, compliance and audits."
Cox's internship also gave him the opportunity to travel with the company and work face-to-face with customers. The rising senior traveled around Indiana and to Illinois, even going as far as Pittsburgh, PA.
"We go in and the loss prevention specialist conducts and audit," Cox said of his visits to client truck fleets. "Then we have to go through driver files and we make sure that all of their drivers are well qualified."
On the football field Cox is one of several key returners on defense. Back this season with captain Nate Ollie and ends Jon Newsome and Nick Miles, Cox racked up 17 tackles and a half sack in 2012.
Ball State, under the direction of third-year head coach Pete Lembo, will open the 2013 season Thurs., Aug. 29, vs. Illinois State in a home game at Scheumann Stadium.
