Willie Snead, a senior wide receiver on the 2013 Ball State football team, has been named to the Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List, which recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football.
The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, the Florida-based creator and sponsor of the Biletnikoff Award, has released the Watch List. The award recipient is selected by the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of over 200 prominent college football journalists, commentators and former receivers. The 2013 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live Dec. 12, on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show to be broadcast on ESPN.
Ball State’s Dante Ridgeway was one of three finalists for the award in 2004 and attended The Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
Snead, who was also named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List in 2012, has 117 career receptions for 1,475 career receiving yards, and both marks rank 12th in Ball State history. He played in all 13 games for the Cardinals in 2012 and tallied 89 catches for 1,148 yards – both marks ranked third in Ball State’s single season history. He tied for first in the nation last season with 58 plays from scrimmage of 10 yards or more. Snead ranked 18th in the country in 2012 with 6.85 receptions per game and 25th nationally with 88.31 receiving yards per contest. He has four games in his career of 100 or more yards receiving and his 11 career touchdown catches ranks in a tie for 10th in Ball State history.
The Cardinals, under the direction of third-year head coach Pete Lembo, will open the 2013 season Thurs., Aug. 29, with a 7 p.m. home game at Scheumann Stadium.
