MUNCIE, Ind. – With 50 years as a varsity sport under its belt, Ball State men’s volleyball now has a book detailing its start as a program, “The Volleyball Debate”. Vinnie Lopes, a Ball State alumnus and founder and editor of Off the Block, wrote the book that is available in an ebook format.
“The Volleyball Debate” includes original research and dozens of interviews with former players and school officials including Hall of Fame coach Don Shondell. This is the first book published chronicling how Shondell grew volleyball at Ball State and began his Hall of Fame coaching career. It is the first book released that about the history of Ball State men’s volleyball and just the fourth book published about a Ball State sports team.
Lopes holds degrees in journalism and history and has covered collegiate men’s volleyball for seven years. He is a two-time national finalist for the American Volleyball Coaches Association Grant Burger Media award. Lopes is the founder and editor of Off the Block (offtheblockblog.org), a website focusing on collegiate men’s volleyball news and analysis.
