Blake Beemer, a senior outfielder on the Ball State baseball team in 2012-13, has been selected as one of 15 finalists for the TD Ameritrade Fan's Choice Award.
The second annual award recognizes college baseball players who excel beyond the diamond and whose leadership inspires others. The 15 finalists demonstrate integrity in all aspects of life, stay active in their community and are dedicated in the classroom. The winner will be determined by fans through Facebook voting and will be honored at the 2013 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby. Fans can view profiles of the finalists and vote daily until June 21.
The 15 finalists who embody the characteristics of the TD Ameritrade Fan’s Choice Award are: Beemer, John Bormann (Texas-San Antonio), Boomer Collins (Dallas Baptist), LB Dantzler (South Carolina), Michael Felton (Campbell), Brian Haggett (Cal State Monterey Bay), Alex Mendez (South Florida), Andy Perez (Duke), Bryan Peters (Nebraska), Dominic Porretta (Otterbein), Raph Rhymes (LSU), John Sheridan (Brown), John Straka (North Dakota State), Brandon Thomas (Georgia Tech) and Greg Zebrack (USC).
Beemer, who was also one of 30 candidates for collegiate baseball's Senior CLASS Award, completed his third season as a team captain for the Cardinals. Beemer batted .262 and tied for third on the team with 30 runs-batted-in. He ranked first on the team with 16 doubles plus was fourth with 83 total bases. Beemer had 15 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games this season.
Ball State managed a 31-24 overall record and finished second in the Mid-American Conference West Division with a 15-12 mark. The Cardinals advanced to the championship game of the MAC Tournament for the first time since the 2006 campaign.
