SCOUTING INDIANA STATE:  The Sycamores are 21-22 overall after winning three straight games at home over Alcorn State over the weekend . . . Indiana State is 7-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference and will complete the league's regular season with a weekend series at home vs. Bradley . . . Robby Ort is leading ISU's regular players with a .307 batting average, while the Sycamores are hitting at a .247 pace as a team.

SCOUTING NORTHERN ILLINOIS:  The Huskies are 21-28 overall and 15-9 in the Mid-American Conference prior to playing a doubleheader at UW-Milwaukee Tuesday . . . Jeff Zimmerman leads Northern Illinois with a .328 batting average, while the team is hitting at a .253 pace.

THE SERIES:  Ball State and Indiana State will be meeting for the 138th time in a series that dates back to 1920 . . . The Sycamores own an 86-51 advantage, while the teams have split the last 10 meetings . . . ISU tallied a 14-3 win in Muncie, Ind., last season . . . Ball State and Northern Illinois have met 71 times with the Cardinals holding a 40-30-1 all-time edge . . . The series dates back to 1971 . . . Ball State swept the three game series in DeKalb, Ill., last season.

THE MAC RACE:  Ball State enters the final weekend of the regular season with a chance to win the MAC West Division Championship . . . The Cardinals are two games behind division leader Northern Illinois, but host the Huskies in a three game series in Muncie, Ind., this weekend . . . Mathematically, Ball State needs to win one game to lock up a spot in the eight team MAC Tournament scheduled for May 22-25 in Avon, Ohio . . . Ball State has the fourth best record of the league's 12 teams heading into the final weekend of play.

MALONEY MILESTONES:  Rich Maloney, who tallied his 600th career victory in Ball State's win at Lipscomb Feb. 23, tallied his 300th career conference victory April 6 at his alma mater, Western Michigan . . . Maloney served as Ball State's head coach from 1996-2002 and Michigan's head mentor from 2003-12 before returning to the Cardinals . . . He owns a 310-177 career record in conference games between the Big Ten Conference and Mid-American Conference . . . In addition, Maloney owns a 154-71 record in MAC games . . . Maloney owns a 282-165-1 all-time coaching mark at Ball State and needs 18 victories to reach 300 wins with the Cardinals . . . The record for head coaching wins at Ball State is 323 by Pat Quinn, a current associate athletic director at the school . . . Quinn amassed 323 wins from 1983-95.

STATISTICAL TRENDS:  Ball State is 20-4 when leading after six innings, 22-4 when in the lead after seven and 23-1 when leading after eight frames . . . Ball State is 16-2 when limiting opponents to two runs or less . . . The Cardinals are 19-9 when scoring first in a game.

BAKER ONE OF NATION'S BEST:  Scott Baker tallied his 10th win of the season and improved to 10-1 with a three hit, complete game shutout over Toledo (5/10) . . . Baker limited the Rockets, who entered the game leading the Mid-American Conference with a .290 batting average, to a .100 hitting mark in the game . . . Baker, who suffered his only defeat of the season in a 1-0 complete game loss at Miami University, owns a 1.69 earned-run average on the season . . . Baker's second victory of the year was at Lipscomb, which was the 600th career win for head coach Rich Maloney . . . His win at Western Michigan (4/6) marked the 300th conference win in Maloney's career . . . Baker has struck out 78 batters in 90.1 innings and allowed only 17 earned runs . . . Opponents are hitting only .221 against Baker.
