Ball State’s baseball team tallied a 5-2 non-conference win at Bowling Green Tuesday afternoon.  With the win, the Cardinals improved to 23-20 overall, while Bowling Green fell to 16-25 on the year.

Ball State will host Purdue Wednesday in a 3 p.m. game at Ball Diamond before returning to Mid-American Conference action with a three-game series over Toledo Friday through Sunday at Ball Diamond.

Chris Lovejoy improved to 1-0 on the season with the pitching victory.  He pitched six innings, allowing one earned run and six hits, while striking out four in the win.  Tyler Jordan earned his third save of the season after pitching the final three innings, allowing zero runs and striking out four batters.

Ball State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in its first at-bats of the game.  Ryan Spaulding walked, Sean Godfrey singled and Cody Campbell was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Blake Beemer's ground out to shortstop scored Spaulding.  Billy Wellman singled through the left side to score Godfrey, and Campbell scored after a throwing error by Bowling Green in Kevin Schlotter's at-bat.

With a 3-2 lead through five innings, the Cardinals added two insurance runs in the sixth to seal the victory.  Beemer led off the inning with a double and Jake Hines followed with an RBI double to put Ball State ahead 4-2.  Schlotter's sacrifice bunt and an ensuing error on the play scored Hines and Ball State led 5-2.

Sean Godfrey managed a 2-for-5 performance from the plate, while Blake Beemer was 1-for-5 with one run-batted-in and one run scored.  Jake Hines was 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored, while Cole Griesinger and Kevin Schlotter were each 2-for-3 from the plate.
