Football's Austin Holtz Inks NFL Contract with Lions
Austin Holtz, a senior on the 2012 Ball State football team, has finalized details and signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League.
The Lions announced the signing of 11 undrafted free agents, including Holtz and one other offensive tackle – LaAdrian Waddle of Texas Tech.
Holtz and the other free agent signings will join the team's draft picks and tryout players at the Lion’s Rookie Mini-Camp Friday through Sunday.
A 2012 All-Mid-American Conference First Team selection, Holtz started 12 games for the Cardinals last season and 32 games in his career. He helped lead Ball State to a 9-4 overall record and a berth in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s St. Petersburg Bowl last season. Holtz anchored an offensive line that blocked for Jahwan Edwards' 1,410 yards rushing in 2012 - the third highest single-season total in Ball State history. Holtz helped protect quarterback Keith Wenning, who set a school record with 301 completions and threw for the third best single season total of 3,095 passing yards in school history last season. Ball State's offensive line ranked 15th in the nation for fewest sacks allowed with a 1.08 mark in 2012 and Holtz participated in the Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game after his senior season.
