WBB Celebrates Season at End of the Year Banquet

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State head women's basketball coach Brady Sallee announced the team's award winners for the 2013 season at the annual Women's Basketball Banquet, which was held at the Alumni Lounge located in Worthen Arena.

The Cardinals ended the 2013 season with a 17-16 overall mark and a 12-4 Mid-American Conference ledger.  Ball State advanced straight to the semifinals as the No. 2 seed in the 2013 Mid-American Conference Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio for the first time since 2009.  The Cardinals also made a run in the 2013 Postseason Women's National Invitational Tournament that consisted of 64 teams.  Ball State knocked off Big Ten foe Minnesota in the first round and Northern Iowa in the second round to reach the Final 16.

The Tom Hammond Memorial Media Appreciation Award was given to Joel Godett.  The Feeney Memorial Scholarship, which goes to a deserving women's basketball player who has demonstrated passion and commitment to basketball and academics, was presented to Brittany Carter.  The Amy Lindsay Fuller Memorial Scholarship winner has to be a member of the Ball State women's basketball team, who is competitive, the ultimate teammate, loves the game of basketball and life, and is a person of great humor.  That award was given to Shelbie Justice.

Three Cardinals earned MAC Player of the Week honors this season, Carter (3/4), Brandy Woody (1/28) and Nathalie Fontaine (2/4 & 2/11).  Ball State also placed three Cardinals on the MAC postseason award list.  Fontaine received MAC Freshman of the Year and was placed on the MAC All-Freshmen Team.  Woody was named second team All-MAC and Shanee' Jackson earned the MAC Sixth Player of the Year award.

The Ball State women’s basketball team also gave out team awards to Taylor Miller who received the Glue Award which was given to the best teammate.  The Flight Award was received by Lyzz Smith for most improved.  Katie Murphy earned the Warrior Award for best and most tenacious rebounder this season.  Woody was presented with the Blood Sweat and Tears Award for her hard work and for being the toughest player.   Fontaine earned the Cardinal Award and Jackson was given the Coaches Award.
