MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State junior Sarah Westaway was selected Thursday as the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week for her performance at last weekend’s Angola Shootout.
The junior from St. Thomas, Ontario, tied for second place on the individual leaderboard with teammate Jenna Hague. She also helped the Cardinals claim the team title in the weather-shortened, 18-hole event and defeat five other MAC teams in the process.
Westaway carded a 3-over par round of 75 in cold, windy conditions on a par-72, 6,125-yard layout at Glendarin Hills Golf Club in Angola, Ind. The second-place finish was her best career result, and she bested her previous season average by six strokes.
Westaway and Hague were tied as the top MAC golfers in the tournament, which included seven teams and 51 total golfers.
The golfer-of-the-week honor is the first for Westaway and the sixth for a Ball State women’s golfer this year. Hague has won the award three times, while Autumn Duke and Meghan Perry have each won it once.
The Cardinals are in Nashport, Ohio, for the Mid-American Conference Championships, which begin Friday morning and run through Sunday at Longaberger Golf Club. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
