Ball State's baseball team suffered a 6-5 loss at Miami University.  With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 17-19 overall and 6-9 in the Mid-American Conference.  Miami University improved to 18-19 overall and 9-6 in the MAC.

Chris Marangon suffered the loss and fell to 1-3 on the season after pitching 4.2 innings, allowing six earned runs and striking out four batters.

Jon Cisna, Tyler Jordan and Miles Moeller finished the game on the mound for the Cardinals and allowed no runs in the final 3.1 frames.

Ball State scored first when Sean Godfrey singled in the first inning and stole second, and then scored on a Cody Campbell single up the middle.

After falling behind 4-1, the Cardinals scored two runs in the top of the third to close the gap to 4-3.  Wes Winkle and Blake Beemer opened the inning with a pair of walks.  Campbell singled again to score Winkle and Billy Wellman's sacrifice fly plated Beemer.

Ball State tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fifth when Godfrey reached base on a hit by pitch, stole second, stole third and scored on a wild pitch.

But the RedHawks responded immediately with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead into the eighth inning.

In the eighth, Ball State manged one run.  Godfrey was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game.  He advanced to third on a Campbell single and scored when Wellman grounded into a double play.

Campbell managed a 3-for-4 performance from the plate with two runs-batted-in.  Godfrey was 1-for-3 with three runs scored in the game.

Ball State will play at Michigan State Tuesday at 3 p.m. before hosting Valparaiso Wednesday at 3 p.m.  The Cardinals will host Ohio Friday through Sunday in a three-game MAC series.
