Baseball Team Suffers 6-5 Loss at Miami University
Ball State's baseball team suffered a 6-5 loss at Miami University. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 17-19 overall and 6-9 in the Mid-American Conference. Miami University improved to 18-19 overall and 9-6 in the MAC.
Chris Marangon suffered the loss and fell to 1-3 on the season after pitching 4.2 innings, allowing six earned runs and striking out four batters.
After falling behind 4-1, the Cardinals scored two runs in the top of the third to close the gap to 4-3. Wes Winkle and Blake Beemer opened the inning with a pair of walks. Campbell singled again to score Winkle and Billy Wellman's sacrifice fly plated Beemer.
Ball State tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fifth when Godfrey reached base on a hit by pitch, stole second, stole third and scored on a wild pitch.
But the RedHawks responded immediately with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead into the eighth inning.
In the eighth, Ball State manged one run. Godfrey was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game. He advanced to third on a Campbell single and scored when Wellman grounded into a double play.
Campbell managed a 3-for-4 performance from the plate with two runs-batted-in. Godfrey was 1-for-3 with three runs scored in the game.
Ball State will play at Michigan State Tuesday at 3 p.m. before hosting Valparaiso Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Cardinals will host Ohio Friday through Sunday in a three-game MAC series.
