BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - Senior distance runner MaryKate Mellen posted a Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships qualifying mark in the 1,500m run to lead the Ball State track & field team at Saturday's Polytan Invitational hosted by Indiana.
In the non-scored event, the Cardinals racked up 16 top-10 performances, including six career-best efforts.
Mellen led the BSU squad on the track, placing second in the 1,500m run with a career-best time of 4:28.71 to earn a berth in the field at the MAC Outdoor Championships in a few weeks.
Senior sprinter Janae Taylor also had a strong showing, placing second in the 100m dash at 12.07 and third in the 200m dash at 25.40. Both marks were season-best efforts.
The Ball State outdoor track & field team returns to action next week, when it travels to Hillsdale, Mich., for the 47th Annual Hillsdale College Gina Relays which run April 25-27.
