MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State’s Jauwan Scaife was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team for men’s basketball, the league office announced Friday.

Teammate Matt Kamieniecki earned Academic All-MAC honorable mention recognition.

Scaife, who graduated in three years and is now pursuing a master’s degree, owns a 3.333 GPA in his physical education graduate program with a coaching specialization. The All-MAC Second Team selection was named the league’s Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Jan. 30.

A senior guard from Muncie, Scaife ranked second in the MAC in scoring average during league play this season at 19.9 points per game.

Scaife added 2.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game while ranking among the top 10 in the conference in overall scoring (16.6 ppg), 3-pointers per game (2.3), minutes per game (33.1) and free throw percentage (.789). He completed his career as the program’s all-time leader with 203 career 3-pointers.

Kamieniecki, a junior forward from Clarkston, Mich., owns a 3.494 GPA as a business administration major. He was an Academic All-MAC selection as a sophomore for the 2011-12 season.

Kamieniecki ranked 11th in the MAC this year with 5.9 rebounds per game and averaged 11.3 boards per 40 minutes played. He logged 4.6 points per game, shooting 51.6 percent from the floor for the season and 57.9 percent in conference play.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of his team’s games. The team is then selected from the pool of nominees based on a vote by the league’s faculty athletics representatives.
