Final 18 at Butler Cancelled, Blackwell Takes Second

AVON, Ind. -- Friday’s final round of the Butler Spring Invitational was cancelled because of wet course conditions, leaving Ball State freshman men’s golfer James Blackwell with a second-place finish.

Blackwell posted a 1-over par 73 on Thursday in what proved to be the only round of the tournament, which was originally scheduled to be 36 holes. He finished two shots behind tournament winner Tom Boockmeier of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Blackwell, a product of Buffalo, N.Y., playing in the fifth event of his collegiate career, was one of four Cardinals competing as individuals in the field of 23 golfers. His 73 on the par-72, 6,960-yard layout at Prestwick Country Club marked the lowest score of his Ball State career so far.

Fellow Ball State freshman Tyler Ostrom also finished in the top 10, tying for eighth place after posting a 4-over 76 in Thursday’s round.

Albert Jennings, who turned in a round of 80, and Zach Yinger, who carded an 89, were also competing for Ball State this week.
