Blackwell Second After 18 Holes at Butler Invite

AVON, Ind. -- Ball State freshman men's golfer James Blackwell sits in second place through one round of play at the Butler Spring Invitational.

Blackwell is one of four Ball State golfers competing individually in the field of 23 golfers. The Buffalo, N.Y., product carded an opening round of 1-over par 73 on Thursday. He trails tournament leader Tom Boockmeier of Wisconsin-Green Bay by two strokes.

Fellow Ball State freshman Tyler Ostrom is also in the top 10, sitting in a tie for eighth place after posting a 4-over 76 in Thursday's first round.

Albert Jennings, who opened with an 80, and Zach Yinger, who carded an 89, are also competing in this week's field on the par-72, 6,960-yard layout at Prestwick Country Club.

The tournament concludes Friday with the final 18 holes of the 36-hole event.
