MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State women's tennis player Kristel Sanders was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week Wednesday for the first time in her career.
“I am very happy for Kristel," said Ball State head women's tennis coach Christine Bader. "She is deserving of MAC player of the week. Kristel works extremely hard and has improved throughout this spring season.”
Sanders started conference action last week with a 2-0 start in singles after defeating Toledo's Lexy Pitt 7-5, 6-1 Friday helping the Cardinals post the 6-1 victory over the Rockets. Sanders then remained undefeated in MAC play Saturday improving to 5-0 after her 7-6 (7-2), 0-6, 7-6 (7-2) victory against Eastern Michigan's Daphne Friedrichs.
She also has a 5-0 MAC doubles mark with partner Bethany Moore. The twosome earned the 8-4 win over Toledo and then went on to beat Eastern Michigan 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Sander remains the only Cardinal that is undefeated in both singles and doubles in league action.
The Ball State women’s tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action Friday at Bowling Green. First serve is at 1 p.m.
