MUNCIE, Ind. - - After helping the Cardinals to a 5-1 record last week, including a 4-0 mark in league play, Ball State softball junior first baseman Taylor Rager (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week.
Rager, who earns the honor for the second time in her career, shares the award with Central Michigan’s Cory Delamielleure.
In addition to the league honor, Rager was also named the College Sports Madness Mid-American Conference Softball Player of the Week as awarded by CollegeSportsMadness.com. It is the second time in her career that Rager has earned the College Sports Madness' weekly honor.
In six starts at first base last week, Rager led the team with a .526 batting average and a 1.053 slugging percentage. She belted three home runs over the six games, while adding seven RBI, five runs scored and four walks. She also led the Ball State defense with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, with 52 put outs and two assists in 54 changes.
Rager, who drove in the game-winning run in last Saturday’s victory over Western Michigan with a two-run single up the middle in the first inning, raised her season batting average from .407 to .429 with her stellar week at the plate. The average currently ranks second in the MAC and 32nd nationally.
Over the course of the season, the Cardinals have had at least one MAC weekly award winner in each of its eight weeks of play this season, while sweeping the award in the first, fifth, sixth and seventh weeks.Rager and the Ball State softball team have seven games on tap this week, beginning with this afternoon’s 4 p.m. first pitch versus Butler.
