Ball State's baseball team tallied a 3-1 win at Western Michigan Sunday to claim a 2-1 advantage in the three-game weekend series.

With the win, the Cardinals improved to 14-14 overall and 4-5 in Mid-American Conference action, while WMU fell to 11-19 overall and 5-4 in league contests.

Jon Cisna tallied the victory on the mound to improve to 2-2 on the season.  Cisna pitched seven shutout innings, while striking out three and walking zero in the win.  He faced 25 batters and allowed only four hits on the day.  Chris Marangon came on in relief and pitchd the final two innings to earn the save.

Ball State rallied for three runs in the first inning and held Western Michigan scoreless until allowing one run in the bottom of the eighth.

Blake Beemer walked in the top of the first to get the Cardinals started en route to the early lead.  Sean Godfrey bunted for a single to put runners on first and second and then the pair moved to second and third on a balk.  Cody Campbell got Ball State on the board with a single to left to plate Beemer and Godfrey.  A Billy Wellman single, followed by a T.J. Weir single, loaded the bases with one out.  Kevin Schlotter scored Campbell on a sacrifice fly to complete Ball State's scoring and give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead and all they needed for the victory.

The Cardinals managed three runs on eight hits, while limiting the Broncos to one run on four hits.

Godfrey and Weir were each 2-for-4 from the plate, while Campbell was 1-for-2 wth two runs-batted-in and one run scored.  Schlotter's sacrifice fly was his second of the season.

The Cardinals will host Bowling Green Tuesday at 3 p.m. in another MAC game at Ball Diamond.  Listen to the contest on or attend the game free of charge.
