Track & Field Places 4th At Miami Invitational
OXFORD, Ohio - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team used a 51-point second day to finish fourth among the 16 teams competing at this weekend’s Miami Invitational at the George L. Rider Track in Oxford, Ohio.
Added to its first day total of eight points, the Cardinals finished the two-day event with 59 total points. Host Miami won the event with a score of 245.50, while Dayton (125.50), Eastern Illinois (100), BSU and Findlay (55.50) rounded out the top five teams.
Senior sprinter Janae Taylor led the Cardinals with 11 total points on the second day of competition by placing fourth in the 100m dash (12.25) and seventh in the 200m dash (26.10). Taylor also ran legs in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays to help the Cardinals score five more points on the day.
For her career-best effort in the 5,000m run yesterday, senior MaryKate Mellen was awarded eight points upon completion of the event’s second session Saturday afternoon. Mellen also placed eighth in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:41.01 to add another point.
Overall, Ball State’s student-athlete combined to score 16 top 10 finishes and six career-best efforts on the second day of the Miami Invitational.
The Ball State outdoor track & field team returns to action Friday (April 12), when it hosts the Cardinal Invitational at the University Track. Action in the meet is schedule to begin at 2 p.m. with action in the hammer throw, pole vault and long jump.
