MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State women's tennis player Courtney Wild was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week Thursday for the first time in her career.
"Courtney is deserving of this honor,” said Ball State head women’s tennis coach Christine Bader. “She has been working extremely hard and is having a great spring season. Her leadership and presence on the court has really helped our team make the jumps we have this spring. With Courtney’s winning spirit, she will continue on a road to success.”
Wild remains undefeated in MAC action at No. 1 singles after winning both her matches over the weekend. Wild started the weekend off on a high note Friday, posting a straight set win over Akron's Angelina Jogasuria (6-4, 6-1). Wild closed out the weekend Saturday, helping the Cardinals to a 6-1 victory over Buffalo. Wild did not give up a game in her first set versus the Bulls, winning 6-0. She then claimed the match in the second set over Miranda Podlas by a score of 6-2.
Wild has helped the Cardinals to a 2-1 MAC record, which is the best program start to league play since 2004. Wild leads the Cardinals in overall dual action with a 16-3 record and a 3-0 MAC mark.
The Ball State women's tennis team will host Toledo Friday at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. First serve is at 1 p.m.
