MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State assistant soccer coach Marcie Klebanow has been promoted to head coach of the United States Junior Girls’ Jewish National Team.
She will lead the team into the 19th Maccabiah Games this summer in Israel. The games are held every four years with countries from around the world sending teams of Jewish athletes to compete in a wide array of sports.
“I am honored to receive the title of head coach for the junior girls’ team,” Klebanow said. “I think we have a highly talented group of players who will be representing the United States, and I believe they have the ability, mindset and experience necessary to win the gold medal.”
Klebanow was originally an assistant coach with the team and helped to select the roster during tryouts in January. She was recently elevated to the top position in place of Aaron Benditson, who gave up the spot because of other commitments.
Klebanow and the team will leave for Israel in early July to practice for two weeks before the games begin. In total, they will spend about a month in the country before returning home near the beginning of August, when Ball State will begin preparations for its 2013 season.
