Tennis Set to Host Three MAC Matches This Weekend

First Serve:  Ball State women's tennis (11-8) will host two Mid-American Conference matches at home this weekend, facing Toledo on Friday and Eastern Michigan on Saturday.  Both matches will be at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center starting at 1 p.m  Ball State has started league action with a 2-1 record its best start to league play since 2004.  Leading Ball State is sophomore Courtney Wild who plays at the No. 1 position with a dual mark of 16-3 while remaining undefeated (3-0) in conference play.  For her career, Wild owns a 7-4 mark against league opponents. 

Second Serve:  The Ball State men's tennis team (12-7) will host its first home Mid-American Conference match of the season Saturday against Northern Illinois at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center beginning at 1 p.m.  The Cardinals recently lost to No. 27 Notre Dame Monday by a score of 5-2.  Despite the loss Ball State took the doubles point from the Fighting Irish.  Sophomore Patrick Elliott also earned a straight set singles victory over Michael Moore, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 at the No. 5 position.  Ball State opened MAC play 1-0 March 30 after posting a 5-2 win at Toledo.  Last season Ball State lost to Northern Illinois by a score of 6-1.

Next Up:  The Ball State women's tennis team will close out Mid-American Conference regular season play on the road at Bowling Green (April 12), Western Michigan (April 13) and Northern Illinois (April 19) before hosting the 2013 MAC Women's Tennis Tournament (April 26-28).  The Ball State men's tennis team will continue to play at home when it hosts Western Michigan (April 13) and Chicago State (April 14).

Note:  All matches will be played at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center this weekend.  If inclement weather were to occur, the matches will be moved indoors to the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.  The Ball State women's tennis team would be the first match of the doubleheader Saturday if played indoors beginning at 1 p.m.  The Ball State men's tennis team would host Northern Illinois directly following the women's tennis match.
