MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team topped Mid-American Conference opponent Buffalo 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
The victory improves the Cardinals to 11-8 on the season and 2-1 in league action. Head women’s tennis coach Christine Bader has turnaround Ball State guiding the Cardinals to one of their best MAC starts in program history with the win over the Bulls.
Ball State got off to another strong start in doubles play, taking the first match after an 8-5 win from seniors Paola Rodriguez and Lauren Pickrel at No. 3 doubles. The point was then claimed after Bethany Moore paired up with Kristel Sanders to beat Laura Fernandez and Marta Stoyanova 8-5 at the No. 2 spot.
For the second time in league action Sanders clinched the winning match for the Cardinals after a three set victory over Gopika Kapoor at the No. 4 slot. Courtney Wild won in straight sets over Miranda Podlas improving her dual match record to 15-3 and 3-0 in the MAC. Courtney Earnest had a come from behind win over Tamara Markovic at the No. 2 position. On senior day Rodriguez not only won her doubles match but also pulled off a long three set match for the victory at the No. 3 spot.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action at home against Toledo Friday at 1 p.m.
