Brittney Emmons, a fifth-year senior on the Ball State gymnastics team, has advanced to the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional in the all-around. She will compete Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. at the University of Alabama.
Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event were named to each of the six predetermined host sites.
Denasiha Christian, a freshman member of the Cardinals team, was selected as an alternate on the floor for the regional competition.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Los Angeles, Calif., April 19-21, hosted by UCLA.
In addition, the event winners at each regional site will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.
Emmons, who was named the Mid-American Conference Senior Gymnast of the Year for her 2013 season with the Ball State Cardinals, was also named to the All-MAC First Team. Emmons is competing in her fifth season after coming back from a season ending injury in the 2011-12 season.
