Merkel leads the way with a 72.24 stroke average for a Ball State team that has won twice and finished second once already in just five stroke-play team events this year. He and Lazzara will join Joe Gasser, Alex Stinson and McCormick Clouser in the lineup this week.
The site of this week’s tournament -- Colonial’s South Course -- for many years hosted the PGA Tour stop in Memphis. This week it will play to a par-72, 7,249-yard layout.
