Schedule Note: Ball State was also scheduled to send a group to compete Monday and Tuesday in the Butler Spring Invitational, an individual event in Avon, Ind. That tournament has been postponed because of inclement weather and has been rescheduled for April 18-19.
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State men's golf team returns to action this week with the Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tenn.
The action gets underway Monday with 36 holes and concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes. Play will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start both days at Colonial's South Course. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
The challenging 16-team field includes seven teams ranked in the top 100 of the latest Golfstat rankings: Texas Tech (29), Vanderbilt (35), Ball State (43), South Alabama (46), Memphis (62), Louisville (91) and Southern Miss (100).
Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Cincinnati, Cleveland State, DePaul, Louisiana-Lafayette, Middle Tennessee, UMKC and Western Kentucky are also in the field.
Ball State, which is ranked No. 39 by Golfweek, is coming off a first-place finish in its most recent action at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. Tyler Merkel was the individual medalist at the event, while Tony Lazzara finished in a tie for fourth place.
Merkel leads the way with a 72.24 stroke average for a Ball State team that has won twice and finished second once already in just five stroke-play team events this year. He and Lazzara will join Joe Gasser, Alex Stinson and McCormick Clouser in the lineup this week.
The site of this week’s tournament -- Colonial’s South Course -- for many years hosted the PGA Tour stop in Memphis. This week it will play to a par-72, 7,249-yard layout.
