FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Ball State Cardinals took down I-69 IPFW in four sets (19-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22) at the Gates Sports Center. Senior outside hitters Jamion Hartley and Greg Herceg led the attack notching double-digit kills.
With the win the Cardinals improve to 13-5 on the year and 4-5 in MIVA play while the Mastodons fall to 9-9 on the campaign and 3-6 in league action.
Hartley led the Cardinals with 17 kills with a .314 hitting percentage (17-6-35) while Herceg added 13 kills off a .417 clip (13-3-24). Middle attackers Kevin Owens and Matt Leske added nine and six kills each while outside hitter Shane Witmer chipped in seven kills.
Blocking-wise, Leske and Owens continued to lead the charge with six and five assisted blocks each. Hartley was credited with two solo blocks and two assisted blocks while McIlvaine assisted on four blocks. Herceg and Witmer each had three assisted blocks.
Both teams had some trouble behind the service line with each squad tallying 14 service errors. The Cardinals knocked in three aces while the Mastodons were able to get two aces.
The Cardinals outhit the Mastodons .303 (53-17-119) to .264 (54-21-125) and held the advantage in total blocks 13.5 – 10.
IPFW was led by the trio of Andy Sellan, Eddie Rivera and Anthony Randolph who had 19, 12 and 10 kills respectively.
