MVB Returns to Conference Action

MUNCIE, Ind. -  Ball State men's volleyball (12-5, 3-5 MIVA) picked up sweeps over Belmont Abbey and King last weekend and is currently riding a four-match winning streak.

The Cardinals are ranked first in the country in blocks per set and digs per set
with averages of 2.98 and 10.82, respectively. BSU is also in the top-10 in the country
in the following statistical categories: fifth in kills per set (12.90) and eighth in assists
per set (12.00).

Middle attacker Kevin Owens is second in the nation in hitting percentage with his
.409 clip and he is fourth in the country in blocks per set at 1.33. His partner at the net
Matt Leske is third in Division I-II in blocks per set with his 1.37 average.

Libero Tommy Rouse is fourth in the country in digs per set with his 2.85 digs per
set. Outside attacker Greg Herceg is ninth in the country in aces per set (0.39 aces
per set) and is 10th in kills per set at 3.84 kills per set.

Scouting IPFW
IPFW knocked off No. 10 Penn State and No. 15 George Mason before falling to No. 3 Long
Beach State last weekend. Eddie Rivera leads the team with 211 total kills at 3.10 kills per
set. Omar Rivera is the team’s primary setter, tallying 9.87 assists per set.

Thursday’s match marks the 95th meeting between the two squads. Ball State holds the all-time series advantage at 67-27. IPFW won at Worthen Arena in four sets earlier this season.

Scouting Ohio State
The No. 6 Buckeyes picked up their second sweep of non-conference rival Penn State this
season, defeating the then-No. 13 Nittany Lions, 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-20), Saturday night
in Columbus. Ohio State (15-3) aws led by its defense, finishing with 13.0 blocks to limit the
Nittany Lions to a .168 attack percentage. Offensively, the Buckeyes finished with a .478 hitting percentage, marking a season-high as a team.

Ball State holds the all-time series record at 99-91-1. The two squads have been facing each
other since 1964. Ohio State won the most recent match earlier this season in Columbus.
