BELMONT, N.C. – The Ball State men’s volleyball team swept Belmont Abbey (25-23, 25-15, 25-16) Friday evening at the Wheeler Center. Senior outside hitter Greg Herceg led the way with 15 kills while libero Tommy Rouse and setter Graham McIlvaine combined for 18 digs.
Herceg netted a .345 clip (15-5-29) and got under four digs. Fellow outside hitter Jamion Hartley was shy of double-digits in kills registering nine. Middle attackers Matt Leske and Kevin Owens chipped in eight and seven kills each while outside hitter Shane Witmer contributed six.
Leske and Owens were both credited with two solo blocks each and Leske also tallied four digs. Rouse had 10 digs, while McIlvaine was two digs shy of his fourth double-double. The setter had 42 assists and eight digs as well as two service aces.
Ball State managed to keep Belmont Abbey to a .098 hitting percentage (28-19-92) while BSU had a .340 clip (50-15-103). The Cardinals held the advantage in digs (38-29) and assists (45-23) while both teams had five total blocks each.
With the win Ball State improves to 11-5 on the season while Belmont Abbey falls to 9-17.
Ball State takes on King College Saturday, Mar. 16 at 7 p.m.
