SCOUTING BALL STATE:  The Cardinals are 6-8 after returning from their spring trip in South Carolina . . . Ball State will play this weekend's series at Taylor University in Upland, Ind., and Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis, Ind., due to weather and field conditions at Ball Diamond.

SCOUTING IPFW:  The Mastodons are 5-7 overall after winning 2-of-3 games over Butler this week . . . IPFW is led by Markus Kalber, who is batting .372 in 12 games this season . . . Kyle Sorensen owns a 4-0 pitching record with a 1.50 earned-run average, while Danny Tursell is 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA.

SCOUTING TAYLOR:  The Trojans are 3-7 overall prior to hosting Concordia Thursday and playing at Cornerstone Friday in a pair of double headers . . . Austin York is leading the team with a .455 batting average through the team's first 10 games, while Grant Hendershot is hitting at a .357 clip and Danny Moorehead is batting .304.

THIS WEEKEND'S VENUES:  Ball State will play at Taylor's newly renovated Winterholter Field Friday and Saturday . . . The facility was upgraded last summer and added new dugouts and an artificial surface infield . . . The Cardinals will play at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis Sunday . . . Chatard installed a new baseball artifical surface playing field last summer in a series of updates and renovations to its athletics complex.

THE SERIES VS. THE FIELD:  Ball State and IPFW have met 11 times with the Cardinals holding a 10-1 all-time advantage . . . The series dates back to 1996, and this will mark the second time the teams will meet at a neutral site . . . Ball State has won the last seven meetings, including a 10-3 victory in 2009 - the last time the teams met . . . The Cardinals have played Taylor 44 times and hold a 38-6 all-time edge . . . The series began in 1934 and the two schools have not met since 1996. 

CODY CAMPBELL STARTING STRONG:  Cody Campbell leads the Cardinals with a .306 batting average . . . He also leads Ball State with 23 total bases and is second with nine runs-batted-in . . . Campbell has a team-high six doubles plus one triple in 2013 . . . He ranks 59th in the nation in doubles.

BAKER EARNS FOURTH WIN OF SEASON:  Scott Baker tallied his fourth victory of the season in Ball State's win over Harvard (3/10) . . . Baker went 2-0 with a 2.25 earned run average on the Cardinals spring trip . . . He owns a 2.25 ERA on the season . . . Baker's second victory of the year was at Lipscomb, which was the 600th career win for head coach Rich Maloney . . . Baker has struck out 26 batters in 24 innings pitched and allowed only six earned runs.

BAKER PITCHING WITH THE NATION'S BEST:  Scott Baker ranks second in the nation  in the latest NCAA statistics in victories this season with four . . . The only pitcher in the country with more wins is Andrew Morales of UC-Irvine, who had five victories in the latest NCAA statistics . . . Baker also ranks 59th in the nation in strikeouts with 26.

KEVIN SCHLOTTER MAKING A MARK:  Kevin Schlotter, a junior who had played in only 15 games in his career prior to 2013, has played in nine games and started four for the Cardinals in 2013 . . . He led Ball State with a .417 batting average in the team's seven spring trip games . . . Schlotter played in six games with two starts on the trip and managed a 5-for-12 performance from the plate with one double and four runs-batted-in . . . On the season, Schlotter is batting .368 with a .421 slugging percentage.

BILLY WELLMAN FINDING HIS WAY:  Billy Wellman, a junior infielder, is batting .295 through 14 games and leads the Cardinals with 12 runs-batted-in . . . He has four multi-RBI games . . . Wellman batted .296 in Ball State's seven games on its spring trip . . . He managed eight hits, including three RBI vs. Morehead State (3/4 - Game 1) . . . Wellman is tied for second on the team with four doubles plus has one home run and a .455 slugging percentage.

SIX STRAIGHT:  Blake Beemer and Wes Winkle have each hit safely in six straight games for the Cardinals . . . Beemer has improved his batting average to a .255 mark in 14 games, while Winkle now has seven hits on the season.

HOW ABOUT THE NUMBER 11:  Elbert Devarie has reached base in 11 straight games . . . He managed six hits and seven total bases in the seven games of Ball State's spring trip . . . Devarie is batting .250 with four RBI and 13 total bases this season.

MULTI-HIT GAMES:  Sean Godfrey leads the Cardinals with five multi-hit games this season, including three hits at South Carolina (3/6) and two hits in each of his last two games . . . Blake Beemer has four multi-hit games this season . . . Cody Campbell has four multi-hit games, including three hits vs. Bradley (2/24).

BEEMER IS A SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE:  Blake Beemer, a senior outfielder/first baseman, is one of 30 candidates for collegiate baseball's Senior CLASS Award . . . Beemer is a candidate because of his notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition . . . He is in his third season as a team captain for the Cardinals . . . Beemer finished fourth on the team with a .282 batting average, driving in 14 runs while scoring 13, in 2012.

TOP HITTER RETURNS:  Sean Godfrey, a junior outfielder, tallied a .344 batting average in the seven games of Ball State's spring trip and now owns a .288 batting averag on the season . . . Godfrey has a team high 26 total bases and owns a .441 slugging percentage . . . He led Ball State with a .328 batting average as he posted 43 hits in 131 at-bats in 2012 . . . He was second on the team with 24 runs scored while driving in 18 runs last season and  led the team with 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts . . . He has four doubles, one triple and one HR this season.

MARANGON'S PITCHING PERFORMANCES:  Chris Marangon, a senior right handed pitcher, started in the Cardinals season opener at Middle Tennessee State and had no decision after pitching 6.1 innings, allowing only four hits and no earned runs . . . In his second start, Marangon got the win vs. Bradley (Feb. 22) in Nashville, Tenn. . . . He pitched six innings, allowing four runs and striking out two . . . Marangon is 1-0 with a 2.77 earned-run average this season and leads the team with 26.0 innings pitched.

BULLPEN SHOWING POSITIVE SIGNS:  Jon Cisna and Matt Johnsen both have had postive appearances out of the bullpen for the Cardinals . . . Cisna has made five appearances and owns a 1-0 record, one save and a 1.80 earned-run average . . .  He was credited with the win vs. Morehead State (3/4 Game 1) and a save vs. Lipscomb (2/23) . . . Johnsen has a 1.17 ERA in 7.2 innings pitched with four strikeouts and four walks on the season.
