MUNCIE, Ind. - Junior Bridgette Ruehl has been selected to compete in next week's NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis. Ruehl has qualified for the 100 and 200 breast.
Ruehl will compete in the 100 breast on Friday, Mar. 22 and the 200 breast on Saturday, Mar. 23. Ruehl, who was named to the First Team All-MAC, earned two individual gold medals at the MAC Championships in the breaststroke. Her times of 1:00.58 and 2:11.77 were both school records.
The junior was Ball State's first-ever MAC champion in the breaststroke and the first to win gold since Sarah Welter earned first place at the league meet in the 100 back in the 2004-05 season.
Ball State's only other swimmer who qualified for NCAAs was Joy Gallagher in the mid-1990s.
There will be 72 schools represented next week in Indianapolis included six MAC schools. Bowling Green's Ana Carrillo Avilez (200 breast), Buffalo's Brittney Kuras (100 free) and Mallory Morrell (50 free), Eastern Michigan's Briana Emig (1650 free), Miami's Bekka Westrick (50 free, 100 free, 100 fly), and Ohio's Laurin Williams (1650 free) will also be at the event.
