TOLEDO, Ohio - The Ball State women's basketball team (15-14, 12-4 MAC) suffered a 63-39 loss to No. 25 Toledo (27-2, 15-1 MAC) Wednesday night in Savage Arena.
For the game Toledo shot 33.8 percent from the field while holding Ball State to 27.1 percent. Nathalie Fontaine led the Cardinals with 18 points on the night. Defensively Fontaine and Woody each had eight rebounds apiece.
The Cardinals could never overcome its 22 point halftime deficit in the second half. Toledo continued to shoot well the remainder of the contest eventually building a 48-20 cushion with 12:46 left in the game.
At the 17:55 mark, Ball State was down 10-0 to Toledo in the opening minutes of the game. The Cardinals then orchestrated a 10-0 run of their own, which was sparked by layup from Shelbie Justice, that tied the contest 10-10 with 13:34 remaining. The Rockets answered back with a 26-4 run which gave Toledo the 36-14 halftime edge over Ball State.
The Ball State women's basketball team will begin postseason action at the 2013 Mid-American Conference Tournament Friday, March 15 in Cleveland. The Cardinals advance straight to the semifinals as the No. 2 seed and will play the winner of game 8 at 2:30 p.m. in Quicken Loans Arena.
